Kaş
KAŞ
Kaş means eyebrow in the Turkish language and when you check the map of the area, you can easily understand why. Kaş is a picture-perfect town on the Turkish Mediterranean coasts. Join us for a walk through the old town, and get ready for the charming beauty of this small town.
If you are after a warm Mediterranean atmosphere you are definitely at the right place. Kaş has all the right elements in hand; phenomenal sea view, narrow cobblestone streets with whitewashed houses, tempting restaurants and cafés, and bougainvillea of course. And while this is quite enough to be felt in love with, we can also add pretty beaches, and a picturesque harbor to complete the Mediterranean vibe.
When you walk around the town you can easily see how the town looks more like a Greek island. The houses still have that distinct Greek look, with a signature of Turkish turquoise. You’ll be amazed at the artisanship of the wooden work on the houses’ Windows. While walking on the streets you can come across a Lycian Sarcophagus over 2000 years old right in the middle of the Street. There are charm and history in abundance, and you will feel it at its best.
Kaş old town is nestled around its small and cute harbor. There are still a few fishing boats that exist but are now surrounded by Turkey sailing gulets, boats for day trips, and specially equipped vessels for diving expeditions. Diving is so popular at Kaş. It is said to be one of the best places to dive in the Turkish Riviera with around 40 diving sites in the pristine bays surrounding the town that offer an opportunity to dive into underwater caves and canyons, but also to see wrecks like a sunken airplane or a war tank. Diving at Kaş is one of the optional tours on our Turkey sailing tours that you shouldn’t miss.
Another very interesting detail about Kaş is its location. It is just 2 km away from a Greek İsland called Kastellorizo. Yes, it is another country just 2 km away and requires passports and visas to go in…You can also enjoy a boat trip to that Greek island for a brilliant day out.
There’s a reason Kaş remained unspoiled, it takes a while to get there from the airport. You can either fly into Antalya or Dalaman airport. Count on a transfer of a little over 2hrs from Antalya, and also 2hrs from Dalaman.
Modern town Kaş was founded on one of the ancient Lycian cities called Antiphellos, there is a monumental tomb, a Lycian sarcophagus mounted on a high base welcomes you when you enter the town center. There is also an amphitheater located just 300 meters away from the harbor where our gulets dock for a day and night trip of Kaş on blue cruise holidays. Kaş also offers amazing nightlife with its fancy restaurants, night clubs, cozy pubs. So you may get ready for a Turkish bohemian style party night when you overnight here on your gulet sailing Turkey tour.
You’ll find plenty of nice boutique hotels in town that are just as beautiful as the town itself. Take the time to explore the area, hop on a gulet to the sunken city of Kekova, and don’t forget your comfortable shoes to conquer the Lycian Way!
